The Power of Make-Believe

2020年起,上海科技大学创艺学院在国内率先提出“娱乐设计”的概念,并围绕该概念举办连结产-学-研三方领域的国际论坛。学院试图站在系统性的高度,从“娱乐设计”的学理出发,纵向梳理“娱乐设计”概念的形成、流变和内涵,横向提炼不同娱乐模式、体验设计和人才培养中的原则和方法论的异同。


2021年娱乐设计论坛设置的关键词是“MAKE-BELIEVE”(制造可信、悬置怀疑)。“制造可信(的内容、环境、人物)”是创造娱乐体验的关键,它“说服”人从惯常的生活中离开,进入一个被创造出来的“不寻常”的体验。本届论坛期待结合创艺学院实验室的科研方向、科研或设计项目,融合娱乐设计实践中经典的概念和理念,探讨娱乐产品的内容、形态、观众接受方式、创作和制作的手段,以及如何通过技术的加成,完成从传统时代到信息时代的迭代。


在国际教育领域,走在娱乐设计教育前端的院校,各自有着不同的“基因”。不论以“故事讲述”为核心(南加州大学电影学院),还是以“视觉表达”为旗帜(艺术中心设计学院),抑或以“智能技术”为驱动力(卡内基梅隆大学),每所院校都基于自身的优势学科和特色制度开辟了具有个性的学科发展路径,却又交汇于动画、游戏、数字艺术、交互媒体等基于不同媒介的娱乐形态。


相应的,上海科技大学创艺学院也将紧扣上海科技大学和创艺学院自身的教学积累各个实验室的科研方向以及具有上科大特色的跨学科创新实践,在纵向上进入“娱乐设计教育”的发展线索,将讨论聚焦在“智能化时代娱乐的内容、形态与技术实现”上;横向上,在学院的主攻范畴——在场娱乐、跨媒体娱乐模式、游戏(包括严肃游戏)、交互设计、活化社区——对“娱乐设计”进行“自定义”。


在创艺学院的教学积累中,已拥有清晰的三条脉络:艺术史论与鉴赏、叙事教育(包含视觉叙事)、设计实践。三类课程各自在文化和美学素养创作与表达用户洞察与创意方案三个维度上,对学生进行多层次的培养,并进行项目实践。


在科研方面,创艺学院已成立人工智能与数字艺术实验室(AIDA),从科技和艺术双维度探讨人工智能的可能性;娱乐创意研究实验室(CEL),以科技引领娱乐模式升级;智能虚拟设计实验室(DIV),以交互设计和跨学科实践引领社会创新设计。同时,信息学院与创艺学院合作的多学科人工现实实验室(MARS)则主攻如何在影视作品和在场娱乐中更好地应用MARS实验室所开发的计算机视觉、计算成像、人工现实等技术,在泛娱乐语境下进行融合实践应用。


基于上述办学与科研的目标与积累,创艺学院期望能够把每年举办的“娱乐设计论坛”打造成一个具有活力的学术平台。希望本届论坛能够围绕着主题词“制造可信”(MAKE-BELIEVE)引入当前产业前端的娱乐设计案例,从创意、美学、技术实现三个剖面展现作品的创作过程。同时,我们期望所有嘉宾通过回答以下三个关键问题,产生对话、讨论与呼应


“如何为观众塑造可信的娱乐体验?”

·“技术端如何与内容端沟通合作?”

·“娱乐产业经验如何反推进入理工科教育?”


希望这三个问题,能够形成一种牵引力,在庞杂的娱乐内容的门类和创作中,为我们找到具有历史延续性跨学科共性,同时能够应对技术和产业前沿变化的关键原则和方法。

Holly Willis


南加州大学电影艺术学院教授、

科研副院长、传媒艺术与应用专业联合主任

Holly Willis是南加州大学电影艺术学院传媒艺术与应用专业的联合主任。她在此教授新兴传媒的课程,如动画故事设计、创意写作/辩证写作等。她创作了《新数码电影:动画的全新呈现》(New Digital Cinema: Reinventing the Moving Image)与《快进:电影艺术的未来》(Fast Forward: The Future(s) of the Cinematic Arts)。她也在《大卫·O·拉塞尔:对话》(David O. Russell: Conversation)的创作中担任编辑一职。她近期为Bjork Digital展览目录完成了一系列关于VR的论文。她也经常撰写关于实验性传媒应用的文章,并在如《电影人杂志》(Filmmaker Magazine)、《洛杉矶书评》(The Los Angeles Review of Books)、《残影》(Afterimage)与《电影感官》(Senses of Cinema)等众多刊物上发布。目前她正在以视频、静态图像与图像拼贴的形式探索电影研究的新图景。


Holly Willis is the co-chair of the Media Arts + Practice program within the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California where she teaches courses on new and emerging media, especially as they relate to moving-image storytelling, and creative/critical writing. She is the author of New Digital Cinema: Reinventing the Moving Image and Fast Forward: The Future(s) of the Cinematic Arts, as well as the editor of David O. Russell: Conversation. She recently completed a series of essays on the VR projects for Bjork Digital, an exhibition catalog, and she writes frequently on experimental media practices for numerous publications, including Filmmaker Magazine, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Afterimage and Senses of Cinema. She is currently working on a series of videos, still images and image collages as a means of reimagining “film studies.”



Scott Robertson

Scott Robertson是世界著名的设计师,作家与教育从业者。在艺术中心设计学院获得交通设计专业学士学位后,他为众多知名企业做过方案,包括Kestrel、Giro Sport Design、尼桑、沃尔沃、雅马哈、宝马集团旗下子公司Designworks、贝尔体育用品公司、美泰、孩之宝、巴塔哥尼亚、耐克、微软、环球影城、苹果等等。在2002年,他创立了Design Studio Press。作为一所专注于艺术、设计与教育门类的出版公司,Design Studio Press现已出版了超过100本书籍,其中13本为Scott Robertson本人参与创作。他创作的书《绘画指南》(How to Draw)和《渲染指南》(How to Render)合计共畅销逾200,000份。在艺术中心设计学院教授了15年工业设计后,Scott Robertson创立了该学院的娱乐设计专业并担任系主任。他也常常参与全球各地的讲学活动。Scott Robertson独一无二的专业知识促使他规划并创立了PatroCo公司,目前担任其首席文化官。他专精于探究先进马达、涡轮、泵、压缩机、以及清洁能源系统在能源、航空、航海、农业、制造业和交通运输领域的应用。


Scott Robertson is a world-renowned designer, author, and educator. After receiving a B.S. in Transportation Design from Art Center College of Design, his clients included Kestrel, Giro Sport Design, Nissan, Volvo, Yamaha, BMW subsidiary Design-works/USA, Bell Sports, Mattel, Hasbro, Patagonia, Nike, Microsoft, Universal Studios, Apple, and numerous other brand-name companies. In 2002, Robertson founded Design Studio Press, a publishing company dedicated to art, design and education, now with over 100 titles released, including 13 he authored or co-authored. His books How to Draw and How to Render have sold over 200,000 copies combined. Scott Robertson taught industrial design at Art Center College of Design for 15 years, eventually creating their Entertainment Design department and serving as its Chair. He frequently lectures around the world for various corporations. Scott Robertson brings unique and unquestioned expertise to the design and presentation of the inventions of PatroCor. Currently, Scott Robertson is co-founder and CCO of PatroCor Ltd. specializing in advanced motors, turbines, pumps, compressors, and clean energy systems for deployment in the energy, aerospace, nautical, agriculture, manufacturing and transportation sectors.

Brian Dai graduated from Art Center College of Design, where he gained a BS in Transportation Design. He has an extensive background in general fine arts, advertising, and working with industry-leading companies such as Cathay Pacific and TSMC to help them innovate with user-centric design. In the past six years, Brian has worked as an Imagineer in The Walt Disney Company and headed the brand experience teams creating magical moments across the Asia Pacific. He is currently the Chief Brand Officer of HEYTEA.

王楚本科毕业于北京电影学院动画学院,随后在旧金山艺术学院(SFAI)获得当代艺术硕士学位。他是北斗北工作室的联合创始人,该工作室参与设计的代表作品有《长安十二时辰》、《一出好戏》、《八佰》、《王者荣耀》、《2021淘宝造物节》等。他同时兼任雷川文化(一家专注于原创动画的初创公司)的CEO。其职业生涯涉及艺术与娱乐产业相关的许多行业,并曾担任策展人、制片人、监制和策划等等多种工作。


Chu Wang earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Animation from Beijing Film Academy and completed the Master's Degree of Fine Arts from San Francisco Art Institute. He is the Co-Founder of BETOBE Studio, which has profoundly contributed to the concept designs of The Longest Day in Chang'an, The Island, The Eight Hundred, Honor of Kings, and the 2021 Taobao Maker Festival. He is also CEO of Thunder River that is a start-up focusing on original animation series. He devotes his career to a large range of art and entertainment industries and plays different roles such as curator, producer, supervisor and planner in it.

王受之,中国现代设计和现代设计教育的重要奠基人之一。曾任美国艺术中心设计学院终身教授、美国南加州建筑学院教授、中央美术学院客座教授等,现为上海科技大学创意与艺术学院副院长、智能虚拟设计实验室主任。王教授出版了许多具有影响力的设计理论重要著作,如:《世界工业设计史略》、《世界现代建筑史》、《世界现代设计史》、《世界平面设计史》等,是国际设计领域公认的知名专家学者。同时,王教授也具备丰富的设计实践经验,从2000年开始参与各种设计项目,担任过万科、融创、中信、龙湖、中维、建业等多个企业的项目顾问。王教授在人才培养方面倡导理论与实践并举,更聚焦于应用型人才培养,对移动设计、人工智能产品设计、泛娱乐设计领域都有独到的学术见解和国际视野。


Shouzhi Wang is one of the most important founders of modern design and the education of modern design in China. He was a tenured professor at ArtCenter College of Design, a professor at Southern California Institute of Architecture, and a visiting professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Recognized by well-known experts and scholars, Shouzhi Wang has published numerous influential works on design theory, such as: A History of World Industrial Design, History of World Modern Architecture, History of World Modern Design, History of World Graphic Design, etc. At the same time, Shouzhi Wang has a lot of practical experience in design. Since 2000, he has participated in various design projects, and he served as a project consultant for many companies such as: Vanke, Sunac, CITIC, Longhu, Zhongwei, and Jianye. Shouzhi Wang advocates the combination of theory and practice in talent training, focusing more on the training of applied talents. He has exceptional academic insights and international visions in the fields of mobility design, artificial intelligence product design, and entertainment design.



Andrew Gormley

Andrew Gormley 从 1996 年开始从事讲故事和设计师的工作。他在罗德岛设计学院就读期间学习了插图和动画。大学三年级他远赴罗马学习艺术史和绘画。之后他在马萨诸塞州剑桥的拉德克利夫学院系统性地学习了故事写作。他在洛杉矶担任多个项目的动画师。他是迪士尼动画作品《101忠狗2》的主要背景设计师。他曾为其他游戏、广告和电影大厂工作,并为多家好莱坞影视公司担任顾问。Andrew喜欢旅行和讲故事。


Andrew Gormley has worked as a storyteller and designer since 1996. He studied Illustration and Animation while he was a student at RISD. He studied in Rome for his 3rd year of university, studying art history and painting. He studied writing at Radcliffe College in Cambridge Mass. He relocated to Los Angeles to work on Family Guy, where he worked as an animation writer. He was the Key Background Designer of Disney's 101 Dalmations: Part 2. He worked for several other game, advertising, and movie studios. He is a consultant for several companies of the Los Angeles film industry. He enjoys travelling and storytelling.
