The School of Creativity and Art of ShanghaiTech University was formally established in November 2017. The founding dean is Mr. Li Ruigang and the deputy dean is Mr. Wang Shouzhi. The college takes the development of humanities and arts education and cultivating comprehensively developed students as its mission, with the mission of interdisciplinary integration, incubating innovative creative industries, and generating far-reaching international influence, and integrates the teaching and scientific research of ShanghaiTech University in the fields of material, life and information Resources, relying on the strategic position of Shanghai's Creative Capital, a teaching ecosystem of industrial design + intelligent technology + innovation transformation has been formed, providing a unique learning environment for the training of a new generation of design talents.



1. School Accumulation

Since 2018, the School of Creative and Art has opened more than 100 elective courses in the arts and humanities, intelligent design, entertainment design and interaction design, serving more than 2,500 undergraduates and graduate students, and hosting more than 70 aesthetic education and cross-border courses. Subject lectures and workshops have created a unique environment for the science and engineering students of Shanghai University of Science and Technology.

Among the previous graduates, many students who actively took courses in the School of Creative and Art entered creative industry companies such as NetEase, ByteDance, and Ubisoft, serving as brand marketing planning managers, game technology artists and other positions.

3. School Facilities

The teaching space in the building of the School of Creativity and Art is about 5,300 square meters. The college has 1 Apple computer room, 3 HP computer room, equipped with Adobe, Rhino, SolidWorks, Unity and other important design software; 13 regular classrooms, 3 painting classrooms, and 4 indoor exhibition halls. The creative technology laboratory cluster covers an area of 2,000 square meters, and has been equipped with equipment including: 3D metal printer equipment, robots, graphics workstations, motion capture systems, etc.

At the same time, the college is also responsible for the management of the teaching space on the first floor of the Shanghai University of Science and Technology Innovation Center, including woodworking classrooms, digital model classrooms, and metal processing classrooms. Large-scale metal processing, digital printing and cutting, 3D printing of different processes, and large format can be carried out. Laser cutting and other operations have the ability to land and manufacture products of different processes.




4. Creativity Labs and Studios

The Creativity Labs and Studios platform is committed to building an interdisciplinary, creative and application-oriented scientific research platform that integrates intelligent technology, design and art, and has a high degree of social responsibility, mission, and international recognition. Many full-time professors in our college also lead the scientific research of the laboratory. The laboratory cluster will be closely connected with all links of the professional education in terms of teachers, equipment, scientific research topics and projects. In the upper grades, students will use the laboratory as their home field to participate in various scientific research projects in the laboratory.



5. International exchange

So far, ShanghaiTech University has cooperated with Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California at Berkeley, Cornell University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, and the University of Illinois. Well-known universities in Europe and the United States, such as the University of Dowat, University of Southern California, Drexel University, University of Pennsylvania, Babson School of Business, and other well-known universities in Europe and the United States, have established good cooperative relations. About 60% of undergraduates have overseas study opportunities in each session.

At present, the School of Creative and Art has established with Carnegie Mellon University, University of Southern California, Los Angeles Art Center School of Design, University of California San Diego, University of London, University of the Arts London, University of Auckland, University of Maimonides in Argentina and other international institutions and institutions. Established good cooperation to develop and develop long-term teaching, short-term workshops, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation in the fields of media production, human-computer interaction, experimental art, product design, and Internet product development.




6. Enterprise linkage

ShanghaiTech University attaches great importance to the linkage of production, education and research. It has cooperated with more than 130 high-tech and service companies, hired more than 100 corporate mentors, and formed a solid industry alliance with talent training as the core orientation.



At present, the School of Creative and Art has established good relationships with industry experts and school-enterprise cooperation departments from companies such as Chinese Culture, Lenovo, Dell, DuPont, GE, Huawei, Xiaomi, Google China, etc., to inject industrial design (intelligent design) into the classroom Industry trends and requirements for talent development from the frontline.
